Ed Lee

He was an organiser for the Asian law caucus and organised historic rent strikes. Then became an investigator in a new whistleblower ordinance. 1991 he became the executive director of the SF Human Rights commission.
In 2005 Newsom appoints him the city administrator.
In 2010 when Newsom was elected Lieutenant Governor of California, Lee became the interim mayor after promising to not run in the following election. However, by the time of the election San Francisco political activists – including Rose Pak (“the alexander the great of China town”) run a “Run Ed Run” campaign leading him to run anyway.
In office Lee implemented a revitalisation program for midmarket SF, allow big tech to not pay 1.5% payroll tax.
In 2015 he won the next election.
Lee’s homelessness policies kept numbers low using one way bus tickets out of the city.
Lee, in collaboration with London Breed, increased the size of the police force.
On December 11, 2017, Lee collapsed of a heart attack while shopping at a Safeway near his home.
